Five Names

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

He is called Wonderful – it will be erroneous to associate this name with simply His character. There is nothing more wonderful than knowing the King of glory is always present and by our side.

He is called Counsellor – in as much as we seek for wisdom from great men and women of experience, neither can provide the wisdom found in His counsel in any given situation. It is good to acquire knowledge from those who are more experienced than ourselves, however there are hidden treasures of wisdom which cannot be given by experience alone but must be given directly from the Counsellor. He is counsellor because He will know the given situation with better and infinite understanding. His words will not only bring comfort but will direct us into effective solutions.

His name is Everlasting Father – the role of the Father cannot be taken from Him and should never be underestimated.  The love of God is good but the love of the Father exceeds human logic and understanding.  It is a love that took Him to the cross to die for humanity.  The love of the Father is the safety hub for the righteous and the magnetic pull for sinners.

He is the Prince of peace – there is a peace that surpasses all understanding which cannot be found in mindfulness or yoga practice.  It comes from Him who is called peace.

Overall, I would like to think that the order of the fives names are of no significance however it is also impossible to ignore the one in the middle – it points us to the very core where even though He is wonderful, counsellor, father and peace for all, He is still without doubt God.  No matter what we may call Him, the child was born and given a name but at His very heart He is the Mighty God.
